Gone are the days of little kids, no homework and afternoon naps. I thought the little kid years were the busy ones...until now! I had time to write and pause for a least a time long enough to write something reflective, but now I can barely keep up with pictures.
As a family, we were reading stories and snippets of old blog post, laughing at how much has changed and surprised by how much is so similar. So, in honor of those moments, we will add some more to look back at one day in the future.
Isaac: He is super competitive (more about competing than the actual win). He devours books. His new "Tristan" in 4th grade who challenges him to push himself is Abbie (thankfully she is on his OBOB team). He is getting better at catching a football (according to Johnny). He experienced his first real friendship break-up with Walker and took it REALLY hard (his initial response was to turn to the Psalms and then reach out to Dad--I hope he always does that when he is hurting). He's done with spiked hair. He wants to dress sporty, but mom usually makes him wear jeans. He's still like his mom in many challenging ways, but they are still both growing. :) He really wants to be "the man of the house" that Dad encourages him to be. Chicken makes him gag (he doesn't love meat). He still chews on everything from Legos to pencils. He is praying we can find his Kindle. He's got a crush on Kylie from school but we still talk about him marrying Aubree Opferman. He doesn't like to wear any puffy clothes that might make him appear chubby. He still sleeps with Old Doggie. Lego Robotics. Go-pro. Drawing. Writing stories. His google docs account at school. Carson at the peanut free table. He sits on Dad's lap in class when CK is volunteering (in front of all his classmates...and is not embarrassed). Always moving. Still talking. Working on pausing...listening.
Abigail: She is as still sweet but is getting stronger with a hint of sassy. She still doesn't sit correctly on a bar stool (according to Dad). She loves to dance and sing and is still heavily influenced by music. She constantly asks her Dad to dance. Everybody in first grade wants to be her friend because she is so attentive to them. She is working HARD to get "S.T.A.R. student." Her attention to detail is astounding (she should be a CSI, nurse or detective). She has 4 American Girl dolls and has worked with mom to create them a big house in her room. She still LOVES to use her imagination and be in character (especially if she can use an accent). She wants to earn money...all the time...for everything (which works out well for Dad when he needs someone to walk on his back). She loves to be close...snuggles, back scratches, face rubs, kisses. Always wants to go on "dates" with us (or Gramma) that she hopes will include shopping or food (preferably both). Long baths. Gymnastics. Lip gloss. Sanitizer. Fashion glasses. She is working on not scratching her skin during this season that's so dry and full of germs (her eczema, especially on her eyelids, flairs when she has a cold). She loves making cards and gifts for people. She is very sentimental. She cherishes gifts and remembers the people and circumstances that go with them (she keeps notes too).
There are so many things that make these two so special and so unique, exactly the people God made them to be. We are so thankful to be their parents and see them grow, Lord willing, into amazing adults who love God #1 and others before themselves.
